Building Engineering Services Business Group Manager - ( 192672 )
HDR is seeking a Business Group Manager (BGM) to lead and grow our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in the Washington Area. This position works in partnership with the Washington Area Operations Manager and the BES Regional Business Group Director, and coordinates business practices and project delivery services that require building engineering design.
Responsibilities
- Lead and build a high‑performing multidisciplinary design team across Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Control Systems, Fire Protection, and BIM.
- Foster a team culture focused on quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support company policies, mentor technical staff, and contribute to planning, proposals, and client engagement.
- Support projects in multiple diverse markets; develop program strategies, acquire new business prospects, and maintain quality, production methods, and standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an effective area business group program; prepare annual revenue forecasts and budgets; monitor performance; help identify and win projects that match staff expertise.
- Serve as Project Manager, Program Manager, and/or Principal‑In‑Charge as appropriate.
- Collaborate with regional and national leaders across business groups to align strategy, support marketing, and drive growth.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional or engineering registration with related technical experience.
- Strategic thinking balancing technical leadership with business development.
- Strong project management skills and a passion for delivering high‑quality work.
- Excellent communication and collaboration across teams and markets.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.
- Minimum of 10 years experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading diverse teams.
- Commitment to quality, improvement and HDR values.
- Active engagement in professional or industry associations.
- Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers.
- Active participation in our employee‑owned culture is a must.
