Job summary

Texas Southern University is seeking a Building Engineer - Automation to oversee and maintain the campus BAS control systems for HVAC and exterior lighting. You will supervise skilled maintenance, calibrate controllers, and coordinate with contractors to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance on BAS including calibration and reprogramming of controllers.

  • Maintains Central Plant (Chillers, Boilers, Cooling Towers).
  • Interface with contractors to convey standards and provide QA.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Under general supervision supervises and participates in skilled maintenance and repair of the Building Automated System (BAS) control of campus HVAC and exterior lighting system. Oversee building equipment maintenance, informing supervisor of problems and issues as they develop. Carry out Preventive Maintenance System as provided.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Perform maintenance on building automation equipment to include but not limited to: calibration, adjustment of controllers, and reprogramming of controllers.
  • Oversee building equipment maintenance, informing supervisor of problems and issues as they develop.
  • Maintains Central Plant which consist of Chillers, Boilers, and Cooling Towers.
  • Interfaces with contractors to understand, convey and interpret information documents, standards, codes or best practice and provide quality assurance
  • Maintain knowledge of required adherence to recognize standards and codes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Requires ability to use Building Automation System (BAS) (WebCTRL, RC WebView, Tridium, Andover, UES, JCI, etc.), Requires good communication and presentation skills. Requires ability to work well with a diverse staff and student population. Also requires ability to work with minimum of supervision.
  • Best practices in commercial HVAC technology for maintenance and application of buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend and explain University policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to commercial construction.
  • Interpret and apply Safety guidelines to daily work.
  • Demonstrates full/complete knowledge in an area. Requires command of technical and functional procedures, processes and subject matter in a job family or professional discipline to handle most situations and lead and/or review the work of others in multiple job classifications performing diverse responsibilities.
  • Microsoft Office Professional, TMA (Work Request system) or similar applications.
