Job summary

Colliers International in Portland is seeking a Building Engineer to lead maintenance across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems. You will ensure safety and reliability while coordinating with property managers and vendors.

You will handle preventative maintenance, respond to client requests, and maintain logs to optimize downtime and costs, with after-hours availability as needed.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in building/property maintenance or building engineering.
  • Solid working knowledge of HVAC systems, maintenance, including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, VAVs, and related equipment.
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Flexibility to be on-call to respond to after-hours / weekend emergency requests.
  • A valid driver’s license and clear MVR.

  • Maintain daily operating logs and ensure cost-efficient operations.

About The Role

As the Building Engineer, you are a technical and engineering expert, familiar with maintenance systems and equipment. You bring strong organizational skills, a customer‑centric approach, and a positive outlook to everything you do. You’ll be responsible for all preventative maintenance, necessary maintenance, and repairs to the building’s mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, ensuring the maintenance systems are running efficiently, and to ensure the safety of our clients and their properties. You will respond to client requests, prioritize, and assign work orders to be performed by Building Engineers, and follow up to ensure minimal downtime. You are familiar with the property and have a working knowledge of life safety, fire protection, and security systems to ensure proper operations and be able to act upon any conditions that are out of the ordinary. You also understand how to develop and maintain strong relationships with property managers, suppliers, and department leaders. And with a keen eye for detail, you’ll be able to successfully manage multiple priorities and reports, including inventory, records, and schedules. Maintain and check daily operating logs for the following: air conditioning, fan units, graph charts, utility meters and general complaints. Ensure that building systems and tenant service requests are handled efficiently at the most economical cost. Successfully coordinate contractor, tenant, and management approvals for work orders. Demonstrate a clear understanding of operating procedures and proper chemical treatment levels for cooling towers and boilers.

What you’ll bring
  • 4+ years of experience in building/property maintenance or building engineering, preferably within commercial buildings.
  • Solid working knowledge of HVAC systems, maintenance, including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, VAVs, and related equipment, electrical, plumbing, energy management systems and other building mechanical equipment.
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Flexibility to be on-call to respond to after‑hours / weekend emergency requests.
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Clear motor vehicle record (MVR)
