Job description

U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated facility management service, is seeking Building Engineers in Philadelphia. The position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of RTUs, AHUs, VFDs, MURs, boilers, chillers, energy management systems, exhaust fans, laundry equipment, fire alarm systems, refrigeration and all associated equipment in a commercial/industrial HVAC/R environment. Candidates will observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters and charts, adjust controls to ensure safe and efficient operation, record data in logs, keep machinery in good working order, perform routine and preventive maintenance, and operate building automation systems. Repairs of a mechanical or electrical nature are also required, along with other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all repairs and maintenance of common heating, cooling, and ventilating components.
  • Engage in HVAC tasks involving piping systems, motors, controllers, pneumatic systems, and chilled water.
  • Maintain air handlers and other mechanical equipment by changing filters, belts, oil, cleaning coils, and drain pans.
  • Operate, install, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment such as air handlers, exhaust fans, automatic valves, pneumatic and electrical controls, refrigeration systems, and space heating and cooling units.
  • Replace fire and smoke alarm detectors.
  • Replace sprinkler heads and perform minor repairs on sprinkler systems.
  • Clean, paint, and upkeep boiler room equipment.
  • Monitor and file records of certificates and licenses for power plant equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies such as floods, power outages, and other incidents.
  • Provide own basic hand tools and test equipment.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and layouts.
  • Communicate clearly in English.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Climb ladders and walk long distances.
  • Pass a background investigation and maintain a clean criminal record.
  • Pass pre‑employment drug screening and random drug tests.
  • Work overtime when required.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in all climate conditions.
  • Work in a correctional environment, a 24/7 operation with scheduled shifts.
  • Work on all building equipment.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Three years of maintenance experience plus two additional years in a boiler room, attending boilers and chillers (large commercial facility preferred).
  • Ability to operate building automation systems.
  • Philadelphia Class A license required.
  • Universal Refrigeration Certification required.
