The roving position requires travel between properties within roughly 45 minutes of Deptford, NJ, with mileage reimbursed. Overtime may be required to meet property needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of building engineering or maintenance experience.
• Commercial Real Estate or Multifamily experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of fire suppression and fire/life safety systems.
• HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems proficiency.
• EPA Universal, Refrigeration, Boiler, Electrical or related certifications.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to travel between properties within ~45 minutes of Deptford, NJ.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on buildings, systems, equipment, and grounds.

Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Schedule may vary depending on property needs. Overtime as needed.

Pay Range:

$26–$30/hour + mileage reimbursement

Position Overview:

The Building Engineer is responsible for completing work orders, monitoring building operations and performance, and performing general preventative maintenance and corrective repairs as needed. The Building Engineer supports the Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering with the day-to-day implementation of policies and procedures that ensure a safe, well-maintained property, with an emphasis on environmental, fire/life safety, and building operating standards.

This is a roving position requiring travel between properties within approximately 45 minutes of Deptford, NJ, in all directions. Mileage will be reimbursed.

General Job Duties:

• Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on buildings, building systems, equipment, and grounds.
• Inspect building systems, including fire alarm, fire suppression, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, to ensure proper operation.
• Must have working knowledge of fire suppression systems and fire/life safety equipment.
• Perform assigned repairs, emergency maintenance, and preventative maintenance; complete maintenance and repair records as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair building systems, including plumbing, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, HVAC, and related mechanical systems.
• Monitor and maintain building automation and energy management systems.
• May direct mechanics, technicians, and outside contractors on assigned projects.
• Respond quickly and professionally to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
• Maintain an energy management program and take appropriate measures to operate building systems efficiently and minimize operating costs.
• Maintain building lighting systems, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.
• Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Conduct routine property inspections and identify potential maintenance, safety, or operational issues.
• Provide professional and courteous service to tenants, clients, vendors, and property management teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of building engineering or building maintenance experience.
• Commercial Real Estate experience preferred; Multifamily experience will also be considered.
• Working knowledge of fire suppression systems and fire/life safety systems is required.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
• Knowledge of energy management systems, techniques, and operations.
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform general building repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Appropriate trade licenses or certifications as required, such as EPA Universal, Refrigeration, Boiler, Electrical, or other applicable certifications.
• Ability to operate manual and power-driven tools.
• Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required.
• Must be comfortable traveling/roving to properties within approximately 45 minutes of Deptford, NJ, in all directions.
• Mileage will be reimbursed for required travel between properties.
• Professional and presentable appearance required.
• Strong customer service and communication skills required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and address building issues proactively.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple work orders, and respond effectively to changing property needs.
