Job summary

Wisconsin Center District in Milwaukee, WI seeks a Building Engineer to maintain heating, cooling, refrigeration, plumbing, BAS and emergency systems at the Baird Center, Panther Arena and Miller High Life Theater. You will work under the Chief Engineer, perform preventive maintenance, respond to service calls, and coordinate with exhibitors and other departments.

Candidates should have 2+ years in general engineering, a high school diploma, and experience with Johnson Controls or Simplex

Qualifications

Wisconsin Center District Job Description -Building Engineer


Position Overview:
The Building Engineer will assist in the maintenance and repair of heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing fixtures and drains, ventilation equipment, fire protection systems, and ice hockey ammonia system and emergency generators at the Wisconsin Center District (Baird Center, UW-M Panther Arena and Miller High Life Theater).

This position will have the responsibilities and duties listed below and will report to, and work directly with, the Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and repairs of food service mechanical equipment, such as portable beer coolers, garbage disposal units, walk-in freezers and coolers, food service equipment, such as; dishwashers, garbage disposals, steam kettles, refrigeration appliances and power washers.
  • Assists with the install/maintain/removal ice floor and ammonia refrigeration equipment.
  • Installs, inspects, maintains and repairs of cooling towers, and condensate steam traps and after coolers, hot water, chilled water, condenser water pumps.
  • General maintenance of equipment and plumbing fixtures at Wisconsin Center District.
  • Install, inspect, maintain and repair steam, air, water, drain and gas lines for facility exhibitors.
  • Operates and maintains the building BAS, fire pumps, jockey pumps and fire suppression system
  • Installs, inspects, maintains and repairs belts.
  • Inspects and repairs plumbing fixtures and open clogged drains. Inspect and maintain fire protection systems and emergency backup generators.
  • Calibration of pneumatic and associated HVAC controls on a preventative maintenance and as needed basis. Calibrate and replace pressure reducing valves for steam and water.
  • Assists in the installation, inspection, adjustment, preventative maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment, water pumps, chillers, air conditioning units, exhaust fans, air filters, and compressors.
  • Understands all mechanical pressure measurements, all types of pressure gauges.
  • Assists in the performance of preventative maintenance activities, and the maintenance of related records and logs.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs of various HVAC equipment including air handlers, VAV boxes, fan coils, heat pumps and split systems.
  • Assists in required daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual required building inspections, and institute required corrections and/or Preventative Maintenance systems and schedules as needed.
  • Manages work request and preventative maintenance requirements through an on-line work order system including, responding to all service calls and verifying completion.
  • Promotes a safe working environment for all employees by following the life safety and emergency program as needed.
  • Coordinates the operations activities with other building departments and show-related contractors.
  • Provides directions and assistance to Wisconsin Center District guests when asked.
  • Attends work on time as scheduled and adhere to the attendance policy.
  • Other responsibilities and duties, as assigned by management, to ensure the effective utilization of company resources and to ensure customer satisfaction.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Understand and consistently follow work rules, procedures and directions.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English; perform basic mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal harmoniously with Wisconsin Center District guests, employees and outside contractors.
  • Ability to operate mechanized equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently; exercise initiative, resourcefulness, good judgment and accept responsibility for own actions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend building prints and follow electrical schematics.
  • Operation of Arc and Wire welder is a plus.
  • Previous work experience with Johnson Controls and Simplex Grinnell equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience to operate METASYS Programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of controls, operation, design, repair, preventative maintenance of HVAC systems with respect to; air-balancing, pneumatic instruments, VAV systems, chilled water systems, condenser water systems, and heat recovery.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of plumbing systems
  • Able to work both independently with minimum supervision and in a team atmosphere.
  • Organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Able to effectively interact with customers, field staff, co-workers and vendors.
  • Flexible and able to work with constantly adjusting schedule, priorities, and responsibilities.

Education & Experience:

  • Required
    • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license; driving record within MVR policy guidelines.
    • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in general engineering.
  • Demonstrated initiative and trouble shooting skills.
  • Preferred
    • One (1) year certificate from trade or technical school.
    • EPA Certification for Refrigerant Recovery.
    • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of Products: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Outlook.
