Job summary

CP Group in Fort Lauderdale, FL is seeking a Building Engineer to ensure efficient operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex issues, and coordinate with tenants to deliver reliable building performance.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of commercial property experience, universal CFC certification, and a strong safety mindset with excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems, and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems and energy reduction practices.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS).
  • Strong understanding of building systems operations and maintenance.
  • Basic computing skills (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Responsibilities

  • Perform plumbing, electrical, or HVAC requirements of the building.
  • Maintain heating equipment, chillers, DX units, pumps, and cooling towers.
  • Monitor and adjust mechanical equipment, controls, and distribution.
  • Verify field conditions and perform repairs or adjustments.
  • Repair doors, ceilings, rails, floors and fittings around the property.
  • Repair plumbing fixtures such as toilets, urinals, lavatories.
  • Perform preventive maintenance per OEM standards and best practices.
  • Inspect engine room, fan room, motors, pumps, and generators.
  • Troubleshoot and repair base building systems.
  • Conduct ongoing quality control inspections.
  • Replace signage and ensure work areas are clean and accessible.
  • Perform drywall, door, lock, cabinet, and wall-covering repairs.
  • Manage structural repairs like doors and roof leaks.
  • Respond to punch lists for tenant build outs.
  • Check emergency exit signs/lights and NFPA life-safety compliance.
  • Respond to emergencies (fire, evacuation, equipment failure) promptly.
  • Comply with codes, regulations, and safety practices.
  • Complete required safety training and maintain neat appearance.

The Building Engineer works as part of a team reporting to the Chief Engineer and is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, water treatment and life safety equipment and systems.

The Building Engineer must have the technical aptitude for building maintenance and repair as well as a can-do attitude and positive communication style that offers tenants high levels of customer service and a strong sense of confidence for timely resolution.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Perform plumbing, electrical, or HVAC requirements of the building
  • Maintain heating equipment, chillers (air and/ or water cooled), DX units, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAV, and air distribution systems, etc.
  • Monitor and adjust all mechanical/pneumatic equipment, VFDs, steam stations, control gauges, distributor panels, valves, thermostats, diffusers, and other equipment necessary to provide a comfortable environment for the buildings
  • Verify field conditions and perform any necessary repairs or adjustments
  • Repair doors, ceilings, hand railings, and floors and other general repairs, adjustments and installations about the property
  • Perform repairs to plumbing fixtures (water closets, urinals, flush valve assemblies, lavatories)
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties in accordance with OEM standards, building protocol, manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices.
  • Inspect engine room equipment, fan room equipment, cooling tower, all motors, house pumps, electric rooms, back-up generator, fire pump(s), sump pump(s), and ejector pumps.
  • Trouble shoot and repair base building systems
  • Conduct ongoing quality control inspections
  • Reinstall or replace signage, verify rooms are clean and clear of obstructions and debris
  • Do drywall, door, locks, cabinets, wall-covering, baseboard and other repairs
  • Manage structural repairs such as doors, roof/glass leaks
  • Respond to punch list items for tenant build outs
  • Check for operating emergency exit signs and lights and ensure free and clear access to emergency stairs and exits. Perform additional fire and life safety inspections as per NFPA and local jurisdiction, OEM standards, building protocol and as directed by supervisors
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure) and tenant concerns
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives as relates to building operations and practice safe work habits
  • Complete all required Safety Training as scheduled
  • Comply with Uniform Dress Code while working and maintain a neat and clean appearance while on the property at times other than working hours
  • Inspect Buildings during inclement weather
  • Additional duties as assigned

  • Appropriate license/permit for trade as may be required, e. Journeyman or Master Electrician License or City Licenses, such as Refrigeration Certificate of Fitness, High Pressure Boiler License, High Pressure Steam Operator, etc.)
  • Experience in operation, maintenance and basic repair of HVAC, boilers, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, water systems, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in energy management systems, energy reduction techniques and
