Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree or technical certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in building maintenance/engineering; strong HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems background.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of building systems; reading blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities to resolve complex issues.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication with tenants, management and contractors.
  • Certifications: HVAC certification, Universal EPA, or Building Operator Certification (BOC) desirable.
  • Physical Requirements: Able to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • System Maintenance: Oversee operation and maintenance of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety).
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement schedules to minimize downtime and extend life of systems.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnose and repair issues; respond quickly to emergencies and minimize disruptions.
  • Energy Management: Monitor energy use and identify savings opportunities.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with regulations and maintain inspection/maintenance records.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external contractors and vendors; ensure work meets standards.
  • Building Inspections: Regularly inspect mechanical rooms and systems to identify issues.
  • Project Management: Assist with or lead building improvement projects; stay on budget.
  • Documentation: Maintain logs of activities, equipment, and performance data.
  • Tenant Interaction: Address tenant concerns professionally.
  • Emergency Response: Available for after-hours emergencies.

ABM is seeking a dependable and skilled Building Engineer to support the upkeep and functionality of commercial properties. The ideal candidate will have experience performing routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative services while ensuring a safe, clean, and comfortable environment. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to meeting ABM Industries' standards for quality, safety, and customer service.

$27 - $27 an hour

The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on applicant's experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Responsibilities
  • System Maintenance: Oversee the operation and maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems, ensuring they function efficiently and reliably.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend the life of building systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnose and repair issues with building systems and equipment, responding quickly to emergencies and minimizing disruptions to building operations.
  • Energy Management: Monitor and manage energy consumption to ensure efficient operation of all systems and identify opportunities for energy savings.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all building systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety and environmental standards. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance, repairs, and inspections, ensuring that all work is completed to the required standards.
  • Building Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of the building's mechanical rooms, equipment, and systems to identify potential issues and address them proactively.
  • Project Management: Assist with or lead building improvement projects, including system upgrades, renovations, and other capital improvements, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment logs, work orders, and system performance data.
  • Tenant Interaction: Address concerns or issues raised by tenants or property management, providing professional and courteous service.
  • Emergency Response: Be available to respond to after-hours emergencies, ensuring that critical issues are resolved promptly

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as HVAC certification, Universal EPA Certification, or a Building Operator Certification (BOC), are highly desirable.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects, and working in confined spaces.
