Eastern Janitorial Company is seeking an experienced and dependable Full-Time Building Engineer to oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of a commercial facility. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of building systems, sound troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, operate, and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building automation systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, routine inspections, and general repairs throughout the facility.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and respond promptly to maintenance requests and service calls.
- Monitor boilers, chillers, pumps, generators, fire protection systems, and other building equipment, as applicable to the assigned facility.
- Complete daily equipment readings, inspection logs, work orders, and maintenance records accurately and on time.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors when specialized repairs or inspections are required.
- Perform minor carpentry, painting, drywall, hardware, and other general building repairs.
- Respond to emergency situations, including leaks, power outages, equipment failures, and weather-related conditions.
- Follow OSHA requirements, safety procedures, applicable building codes, and company policies.
- Maintain mechanical rooms, work areas, tools, and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Communicate building concerns, completed repairs, equipment conditions, and recommended improvements to management.
- Provide professional and courteous service to employees, tenants, clients, visitors, and vendors.
- Participate in an on-call or emergency response rotation when required by the assigned facility.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3-5 years of commercial building maintenance, facilities, or engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety systems.
- Ability to diagnose problems and complete or coordinate repairs safely and efficiently.
- Experience using preventive maintenance programs, work-order systems, and maintenance logs.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and communicate urgent concerns promptly.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic work orders and reports.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in mechanical areas for extended periods.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and conditions.
- Ability to work a full-time schedule and provide emergency or on-call coverage when assigned.
