RSI Building Envelope is an independent engineering firm in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area, specializing in building envelope evaluation, design, testing, and construction observation services. We prioritize understanding our clients' needs and desired results for their buildings, with a focus on problem-solving and client satisfaction.

Role Description

We are currently seeking consultant(s) with an interest in designing and consulting on the building enclosures (roofs, windows/fenestrations, exterior walls, and waterproofing). Candidates should be passionate about furthering their education in the building enclosure field. RSI strongly values continuing education and certifications related to the building enclosure. We encourage coworkers to spend 20% of their time devoted to certifications in the building enclosure field and highly value individuals who are genuinely interested in learning everything they can about the building enclosure.

RSI Building Envelope is a design and quality assurance observation firm, started in 1986, specializing in all aspects of the building enclosure. We listen to our clients until we understand all of their concerns before we create design solutions for all manner of buildings from historic cathedrals to modern skyscrapers. Our clients include Fortune 500 companies, churches, federal, state, and local government, and many more. The majority of our projects are concerned with the diagnosis and rehabilitation of existing buildings, but also with incorporating sustainable solutions for enclosures of new buildings. We do not offer our clients one-size-fits-all solutions; we listen to our clients' needs/concerns and tailor every solution to fit each individual project. We are in the business of solving our clients' problems through investigations, design solutions, commissioning, or quality assurance observation during construction.

Responsibilities

• Provide consulting services to clients on a variety of topics, including performing third‑party reviews of construction documents and specifications for building envelope components.
• Assist in the analysis of building component failures and develop means of assessment and conducting an investigation.
• Write reports and documentation; review reports of others.
• Oversee the creation of construction documents for building envelope repair/replacement.
• Utilize your marketing and business development skills to sell and perform professional services, including developing project scope/cost estimates, writing proposals, and performing the work in compliance with those estimates.
• Making presentations to professional organizations and clients in the process of marketing.
• Occasional travel.

Skills

• Excellent written and verbal skills are required to describe observations, analysis, testing, and conclusions based upon building codes, industry standards, and professional experience.
• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
• Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
• Ability to visit a project or job site. This can be in a combination of tightly enclosed areas, or on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding. At times the job can be physically demanding and involves interior and exterior work in all weather conditions.

Experience

• Degreed Architect/Engineer from an accredited college is preferred but not required
• Equivalent education and experience in building enclosure industry.
• Interest in Building Sciences and Building enclosure required.
• Experience in the detailing, construction, and construction administration phases of a building project.
• Experience or interest in learning about building systems, waterproofing, windows/curtainwall, exterior façade materials, roofing, and masonry.
• Knowledge of Building Codes, Energy Codes.
• Prior successful experience in project management is desired.
