LVI Associates is seeking a Senior Building Envelope Consultant in the United States (Massachusetts) to lead technically challenging projects involving investigation, rehabilitation, and design of building enclosure systems across commercial, institutional, and residential structures.

The role blends technical expertise with fieldwork, client interaction, and project leadership, offering significant autonomy and opportunities to mentor staff while delivering high-profile projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or related field; advanced qualifications are a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in building envelope consulting, forensic engineering, architecture, or related services.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license required.
  • Experience investigating and repairing building enclosure systems.
  • Strong knowledge of roofing, waterproofing, façades, cladding, glazing, and moisture management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver building enclosure projects from investigation through design and construction support.
  • Conduct site assessments, condition surveys, and forensic evaluations of existing systems.
  • Diagnose performance issues across roofing, waterproofing, façades, and below-grade assemblies.
  • Develop repair/rehabilitation solutions for aging envelope components.
  • Perform field testing and water infiltration investigations to locate moisture sources.
  • Prepare technical reports, repair documents, specifications, and drawings.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, owners, and stakeholders across all phases.
  • Provide construction phase services including site observations and QA reviews.
  • Review project documentation and offer guidance during design and peer reviews.
  • Support litigation or dispute resolution as required.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development.
  • Build strong client relationships and support business development.

This position offers the opportunity to lead technically challenging projects involving the assessment, rehabilitation, and design of building enclosure systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, and residential structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and deliver building enclosure and façade projects from investigation through design and construction support.
  • Conduct site assessments, condition surveys, and forensic evaluations of existing building systems.
  • Diagnose performance issues involving roofing, waterproofing, façades, cladding systems, windows, curtain walls, and below-grade assemblies.
  • Develop repair and rehabilitation solutions for aging or underperforming building envelope components.
  • Perform field testing and water infiltration investigations to determine sources of moisture-related issues.
  • Prepare technical reports, repair documents, specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, ownership groups, and project stakeholders throughout all project phases.
  • Provide construction phase services, including site observations, contractor support, and quality assurance reviews.
  • Review project documentation and provide technical guidance during design and peer review processes.
  • Support litigation, expert witness, or dispute resolution assignments when required.
  • Mentor junior staff, share technical knowledge, and contribute to team development initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting business development opportunities.
Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline. Advanced qualifications are advantageous.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience within building envelope consulting, forensic engineering, architecture, or construction-related services.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) licence required.
  • Demonstrated experience investigating and repairing building enclosure systems.
  • Strong understanding of roofing, waterproofing, façades, cladding systems, glazing, curtain walls, and moisture management principles.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, schedules, and client expectations simultaneously.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable conducting fieldwork, including accessing rooftops, swing stages, ladders, and elevated structures.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance technical and client-facing responsibilities.
  • Experience with historic structures, façade restoration, rope access, or public presentations would be beneficial.
