Summary

Assumes responsibility for building operations including cleaning, heating, ventilation, and general supervision of maintenance for all equipment in the building and grounds. Directs and plans custodial staff work, ensuring successful operations, workload management, and employee assistance. This position is the Head Custodian in Middle and High Schools.

Responsibilities

1. Schedules and assigns work for custodial staff to ensure building cleanliness.
2. Monitors building and grounds upkeep to maintain acceptable standards.
3. Operates equipment weighing 75 lbs or more for floor scrubbing, buffing, and waxing.
4. Operates carpet cleaning equipment over 50 lbs and instructs staff on proper use.
5. Ensures doors are properly opened during occupancy and secured after hours.
6. Performs procedures to shut off electrical, water, and gas mains; ignites pilot lights on appliances and boilers.
7. Orders and receives custodial supplies, maintaining adequate inventory.
8. Performs minor repairs and submits work orders for maintenance.
9. Prepares reports, documents issues, and assists maintenance staff.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of custodial experience within Fulton County Schools or 3 years outside, with some supervisory experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies, and equipment.
• Understanding of heating and ventilation maintenance.
• Ability to communicate cleaning and maintenance instructions clearly.
• Computer literacy for emails and work orders.
• Effective supervision and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Exposure to weather, heat, cold, dampness, humidity.
