The City of Homer is seeking a custodial worker to provide cleaning services across city buildings, including City Hall, Police, Library, and Public Works. Duties include restroom sanitation, floor care, dusting, and trash removal, with a car allowance and a recruitment bonus available after probation.
Applicants must have at least two years of janitorial experience, the ability to follow instructions, and a valid driver’s license. A background check is required and confidentiality is essential.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for custodial services in all city buildings, including City Hall, Police, Library, Port, Port Maintenance, Public Works, Public Works Operations and Airport Terminal.
$400 monthly car allowance in addition to hourly rate.
$500 recruitment bonus paid after first 90 days.
At least two years experience with janitorial work. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be at least 19 years of age and applicant is subject to background investigation check. Ability to communicate effectively. Valid Driver’s license required. Confidentiality absolutely necessary.
Independent judgment required to schedule janitorial tasks and to complete tasks in a timely manner. Required to handle routine tasks with minimal supervision. Potential liability to city is minor.

Employee will be required to have their own vehicle to travel between buildings. City will reimburse mileage at approved mileage allowance. Shift work required. Work is typically performed in city buildings. Low frequency of exposure to hazardous working situations, infrequent exposure to adverse weather conditions. Employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease and irritating chemicals. Work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves. Work is performed with employee standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. Employee must frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds.
