Job summary

Brookline Council on Aging seeks a dependable Building Custodian to support daily operations at the Senior Center and ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for older adults and visitors. This position plays a key role in maintaining facility cleanliness, supporting programs and events, and performing routine building maintenance.

Open and secure the building, set up for events, maintain cleanliness, and perform minor repairs as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and custodial/maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Open and secure the building daily for program use.
• Set up and break down furniture, equipment, coffee, and food for programs and events.
• Maintain cleanliness of all interior spaces including washing windows and walls, mopping floors, vacuuming, and trash/recycling.
• Change light bulbs, perform minor repairs, and report major issues to Building Department.
• Monitor building systems (boiler gauges, heating, ventilation, elevator) for proper operation.
• Maintain inventories, order supplies, prepare work orders, and keep records.

Brookline Council on Aging seeks a dependable and detail-oriented Building Custodian to support daily operations at the Senior Center and ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for older adults and visitors. This position plays a key role in maintaining facility cleanliness, supporting programs and events, and performing routine building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Open and secure the building daily and ensure all areas are prepared for use.
• Set up and break down furniture, equipment, coffee, and food for programs and events.
• Maintain cleanliness of all interior spaces, including washing windows and walls, mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, and disposing of trash and recycling.
• Change light bulbs, perform minor repairs, and report major issues to the Building Department.
• Monitor building systems to ensure proper operation, including checking boiler gauges, heating, ventilation, and elevator functionality.
• Maintain inventories, order supplies, prepare work orders, and keep accurate records.
• Contact police or fire departments in emergencies.
• Perform related tasks and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience in custodial or maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Valid Class D Driver’s License.

The ideal candidate will

have strong knowledge of cleaning methods and materials, the ability to use basic hand tools for maintenance and repairs, and the capacity to follow written and oral instructions. The role requires someone who can identify building maintenance needs, work independently on an established schedule, and manage moderate to strenuous physical tasks, including lifting up to 60 pounds.

Pay and Benefits

$29.25 hourly with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement pension, and generous paid time off.
