The immediate vacancies are located in Halawa to Kalihi and Downtown.
ONE (1) of the vacancies is for Temporary, Full-time position.
Salary: $6,090 to $6,561 per month (SR-19, Step C to I). Salary includes Shortage Category Differential.
Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Note: Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits afforded to an employee in a permanent position with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancies and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. This is the full performance level for building construction inspection work involving a broad range of inspection functions for a variety of construction operations, materials, and methods under varying conditions and requirements.
These positions inspect and measure construction materials used, and check methods employed in the construction at hand; inspect the erection of false work and concrete forms used; accept or reject concrete forms, construction equipment and materials based on specifications or modifications approved by a higher level inspector; keep detailed records of work completed and materials used; prepare and submit routine inspection reports as directed; prepare monthly progress reports concerning the construction project; and perform other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
TWO (2) YEARS of Journey level experience in the building construction trades, which demonstrated knowledge of the full range of specialized knowledge, skills, abilities and practices used in such trades, including knowledge of building construction methods and materials and safety requirements and practices, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
ONE (1) YEAR of either:
Work experience which involved tasks that demonstrated the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; write simply and directly, and perform arithmetic computations.
Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
Some positions require the ability to lift and carry objects of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation.
Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, may apply.
In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport, must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within 10 years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years. The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility.
