Job summary

The Town of Clarksville seeks an experienced Building Commissioner who balances technical expertise with exceptional customer service to lead permitting, inspections, code enforcement, and municipal facilities. This progressive leader will review plans, present before boards, mentor staff, and manage operations with a focus on safety and service.

Required: extensive building code knowledge, 7+ years in construction and code administration, and GIS/Microsoft Office proficiency.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of higher education in construction, engineering, architecture, building technology, or related field.
• At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in commercial and residential construction and related areas.
• Minimum of seven years interpreting and applying International Building Codes and related construction codes.
• Thorough knowledge of construction methods, permitting, inspections, and local regulations.
• Experience reviewing construction plans and providing detailed technical comments for architects, engineers, designers, and contractors.
• Experience managing building inspections, permitting software, code enforcement activities, and departmental operations.
• Working knowledge of GIS, Microsoft Office, and electronic permitting or code enforcement software systems (GovWell experience preferred).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Indiana driver’s license.
