Job summary

The City of Homewood is seeking a Building Inspections Officer to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, and gas codes, along with city zoning ordinances. This role ensures that existing and planned structures are safe for occupancy and compliant with approved plans.

You will interact with contractors, tradespeople, homeowners, and the public. Responsibilities include reviewing plans, conducting inspections, issuing permits and occupancy certificates, maintaining records, and supporting

Qualifications

• Valid driver license required.
• Experience interpreting plans for code compliance (building, plumbing, electrical, gas).
• Experience in at least one of: installing electrical, HVAC, plumbing, framing, or supervising construction.

Responsibilities

• Conducts building inspections following procedures to ensure compliance with codes and zoning regulations.
• Enforces codes by reviewing plans and performing inspections.
• Conducts electrical inspections by comparing installations to plan requirements for code compliance.
• Conducts gas inspections by checking for leaks and proper venting and BTU calculations.
• Maintains inspection records, fees, and certifications of occupancy.
