Job summary

San José State University’s Facilities Development & Operations team seeks a Facilities Control Specialist to oversee installation, maintenance, and programming of building automation systems that manage complex HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Building Infrastructure Trades, you will troubleshoot, design and implement control strategies, inspect work for code compliance, and mentor colleagues in troubleshooting and calibration of controls across campus.

Qualifications

• Two years of journey-level experience operating and maintaining boiler, heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and systems.
• Apprenticeship completing refrigeration or air conditioning mechanics.
• Experience with Pneumatic and Digital Controls.
• Progressively responsible journey-level experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining large, complex HVAC and water treatment systems.
• Experience installing, inspecting, servicing, repairing, replacing and calibrating building automation and control systems.
• Experience using programming features of building automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot, design, modify, calibrate and program system features and respond to technical and mechanical problems, either remotely or onsite.
• Install, modify and adjust computer-based heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and systems.
• Fabricate and implement programs or building control strategies for digitally controlled or global supervisory controlled systems.
• Troubleshoot, design and modify programs for building automation systems.
• Repair and maintain individual hardware and software components of applicable systems.
• Perform major-to-minor overhauls including disassembly, inspection, replacement of worn parts, reassembly and testing.
• Perform major-to-minor repairs of microprocessor-based automation systems.
• Respond to service requests, diagnose and troubleshoot system problems and correct as necessary.
• May serve as department specialist on building automation systems, and train others on troubleshooting, overhaul, calibration and testing of controls to facilitate maintenance.
• Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with manufacturer’s recommendations, standards, and codes.
