SUMMARY:Incumbents perform manual tasks involving the custodial care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of City buildings. Incumbents use proper methods, materials, and equipment to clean and maintain buildings and equipment in a neat and sanitary condition.

- Cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture, equipment, fixtures, surfaces, walls, wood paneling, window sills, trim, doors, cabinets, vents, and other surfaces; cleans office equipment, tables, and telephones; cleans glass doors, windows, and blinds;cleans white boards and bulletin boards;cleans, deodorizes, and disinfects bathrooms; cleans mirrors and showers; replenishes soap products and paper products;cleans kitchen/break room equipment such as coffee pots, coffee machines, microwave ovens, refrigerators, dishware, and vending machines; empties and cleans trash containers; replaces trash liners in trash containers; picks up and disposes of trash from floor/ground areas; carries/transports trash to Dumpster or other designated trash receptacle
- Vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and shampoos carpet or floor surfaces; spot cleans as needed
- Maintains exterior areas around buildings, which may include sweeping mats or walkways, hosing sidewalks and entryways, emptying ashtrays/urns, and picking up and disposing of debris/litter from grounds
- Performs general tasks, maintenance tasks, and manual tasks associated with work activities, which may include moving furniture/equipment, assembling equipment, setting up rooms for meetings/events, folding/stacking tables and chairs, and loading/unloading materials
- Performs building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, troubleshooting basic plumbing or electrical problems, installing fixtures, and unstopping commodes; performs other general laborer type work
- Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refilling fluids, cleaning equipment, refueling vehicles, or cleaning work/storage areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment
- Assists in maintaining security of buildings/facilities; locks/unlocks buildings/offices as appropriate; turns off lights, copiers, and other office equipment not in use
- Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, schedules, delivery receipts, chemical guides, material safety data sheets, mixing instructions, equipment operating manuals, policies, procedures, handbooks, reference materials, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate
- Monitors inventory levels of equipment, cleaning materials, tools, and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement items; stocks and distributes supply items
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE:Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Ohio commercial driver license.
