Job summary

The City of Gainesville is seeking a Building Attendant within the Facilities Division to support events and rentals at city buildings, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants.   • Performs setup and cleanup for events and activities at assigned buildings and grounds.

  • Locks and unlocks facilities and notifies authorities in case of emergency.
  • Monitors events and programs and assists as needed.
  • Enforces rules and regulations for participants and visitors.
  • Attends work on a regular and continuous basis.

Job Details: Looking for a hands‑on role where your work truly makes a difference? As a Building Attendant, you’ll help keep facilities safe, clean, and event‑ready—supporting the programs and gatherings that bring the Gainesville community together. This position is part of the Facilities Division within the City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. Building Attendants provide essential on‑site support for programs, events, and facility rentals, while promoting a welcoming and positive environment for all participants and visitors by assisting with facility supervision, event setup and breakdown, custodial duties, and delivering high‑quality customer service to all. This is a temporary, part‑time position averaging approximately 20–29 hours per week. Weekly schedules are determined based on program and event needs, requiring weekdays, mornings, mid‑shifts, evening, weekends, and holiday work. Note: A Level 2 background check is required for all applicants within the Facilities Division.

Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under close supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of supervisory responsibility and from lower classes by its emphasis on setting up and monitoring city events.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Completion of high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and one year experience in janitorial work that includes public contact, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

Valid Florida Drivers License required.

Work requires physical strength and agility. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work requires wearing uniform supplied and in compliance with dress code.

May perform lead worker or supervisory duties with contract and temporary employees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
