Completion of the 6th grade. Ability to read and write English wellenough to comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) oncleansers, chemicals, and other containers, and to understand workorders, complete time cards, and receive oral and written workdirections.

As condition of employment this position requires the applicant tobe authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for OfficialUniversity Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157,applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check fortheir most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of StateDrivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from theirprior State of residence(s).
One (1) year of experience as a Building Attendant I or itsequivalent.
Two (2) or more years experience as a Building Attendant I or itsequivalent in a college or university.
Knowledge of janitorial equipment and of its care and maintenancerequirements.
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Workschedule: commonly day shift with weekend or night work onoccasion. Usual office building conditions. Some exposure toinclement weather when moving between buildings and emptying trash.May be exposed to other hazardous wastes, chemicals, and/orconditions in assigned area. UTRGV is a distributed institution,which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the RioGrande Valley.
Must be physically able to perform all essential functions andduties of the job. Requires considerable stooping, bending,kneeling, walking, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects toperform job duties. Requires moving, lifting, carrying, pushing,and pulling of heavy furniture, equipment, trash cans, boxes,files, filing cabinets, and other objects weighing up to 50 lbs.when working alone and 100 lbs. with help. Must be able to climbstep ladders and maintain balance to clean and wash windows andlighting.
