Job summary

The Rapid is hiring a Building and Grounds Technician to join our Facilities team in Grand Rapids, MI. You will inspect, maintain, and repair buildings, grounds, and bus shelters, ensuring safe and functional facilities.

Preferred candidates have 2+ years in general shop or facility maintenance, experience with HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and related trades, and a valid Michigan driver’s license. On-site role with overtime for emergencies and snow removal.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn new programs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and perform preventive maintenance on buildings, grounds, and facility equipment.
• Perform maintenance and basic repairs on CNG station equipment.

Building and Grounds Technician

The Rapid is seeking a Building and Grounds Technician to join our Facilities team and help keep our buildings, grounds, bus shelters, and bus stops safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position performs a variety of inspection, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and basic construction work across The Rapid's facilities and grounds.

What You’ll Do

• Inspect, maintain, and perform preventive maintenance on buildings, grounds, and facility equipment.
• Perform maintenance and basic repairs on compressed natural gas (CNG) station equipment.
• Maintain and repair building electrical and lighting systems.
• Maintain and service HVAC equipment and controls.
• Perform plumbing maintenance and repairs.
• Perform carpentry, masonry, and concrete work.
• Maintain landscape and irrigation systems.
• Work with compressors, motors, and related equipment.
• Assemble, maintain, rehabilitate, and install bus shelters.
• Maintain and install bus stop signs.
• Operate, service, and perform basic repairs on facility maintenance equipment.
• Perform snow removal and snow plowing.
• Respond to emergency facility maintenance needs.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new programs as needed.

Preferred:

• Two or more years of related experience in general shop, building, or facility maintenance.
• Experience working with compressors and motors.
• Experience HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, grounds maintenance, or similar facility maintenance work.

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires regular physical activity, including walking, pushing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling, twisting, reaching, and repetitive use of the arms, hands, and wrists. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions.

Additional Requirements:

• Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must follow all applicable health and safety policies and procedures.
• Occasional overtime is required for emergency situations, snow removal, and other operational needs.
