Job summary

Hermeus is seeking a Build Reliability Engineering Intern to support the development, improvement, and standardization of manufacturing processes for the next-generation aircraft. You will collaborate with engineers and technicians to identify challenges, investigate root causes, and implement improvements on the factory floor.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering or related field.
• Undergraduate student in 3rd or 4th year, or enrolled in a Master's/PhD program.
• Hands-on experience building, fabricating, assembling, or testing hardware.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.

Responsibilities

• Support development and improvement of manufacturing processes for aircraft structures and hardware.

• Investigate defects, nonconformances and inefficiencies to identify root causes.

• Create and improve work instructions, process documentation and manufacturing standards.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to capture lessons learned for future builds.
• Support continuous improvement projects across structural manufacturing and aircraft assembly.

About The Role:

As a Build Reliability Engineering Intern at Hermeus, you will support the development, improvement, and standardization of manufacturing processes used to build our next-generation aircraft. You will work closely with engineers and technicians to identify manufacturing challenges, investigate root causes, and implement improvements across structural fabrication and assembly processes.

Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)

Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)

• Support the development and improvement of manufacturing processes for aircraft structures and hardware.
• Work hands-on with sheet metal, welded assemblies, tooling, and other manufacturing equipment on the factory floor.
• Investigate manufacturing defects, nonconformances, and process inefficiencies to identify root causes.
• Develop and implement corrective actions to improve quality, repeatability, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Help establish standardized processes and best practices for welding, fabrication, repair, preparation, and assembly.
• Create and improve work instructions, process documentation, and manufacturing standards.
• Partner with engineers and technicians to capture lessons learned and incorporate them into future builds.
• Support continuous improvement projects across structural manufacturing and aircraft assembly.
• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related technical field (undergraduate student in your third or fourth year of study, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program).
• Hands-on experience building, fabricating, assembling, or testing hardware through internships, coursework, clubs, competition teams, or personal projects.
• Comfortable working directly on the factory floor and learning manufacturing processes hands-on.
• Strong interest in manufacturing, welding, materials, structures, or process improvement.
• Ability to approach problems using engineering first principles and root-cause analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to clearly document technical processes.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
• Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus’s mission
• GPA of 3.0 or above

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
