Delaware Theatre Company is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious Build Carpenter to join our production team. This hourly position supports the construction and preparation of scenic elements for theatrical productions and other projects at Delaware Theatre Company.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can work independently, follow direction, manage their time effectively, and take pride in producing quality work in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

• Construct, modify, and prepare scenic elements using a variety of materials, including plywood, dimensional lumber, rigid foam, and other theatrical construction materials.
• Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned projects and tasks.
• Maintain a clear understanding of project deadlines and effectively self-pace work to meet established timelines.
• Read and interpret dimensions, measurements, and scaled 2D and 3D construction drawings.
• Follow verbal and written instructions accurately and thoroughly.
• Ask appropriate questions and communicate clearly when additional information or clarification is needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Use common hand and power tools safely and appropriately.
• Work safely at heights of up to 16 feet using ladders and scaffolding.
• Follow all theatre safety procedures and contribute to a safe and respectful workplace.

• Previous theatre, scenic construction, carpentry, fabrication, or related experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

This position is physically active and requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, work from scaffolding, and safely lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 pounds. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a production environment that may involve noise, dust, tools, varying temperatures, and work at heights of up to 16 feet.
