Steel Thread Software, Inc. is seeking a Build and Release Engineer for a fast-paced startup environment serving commercial and government clients.

The role focuses on automating and optimizing the software build and deployment system to reduce time from commit to customer, with scalable release pipelines and best-practice adherence. You will build and maintain the pipeline, train developers, and push continuous release improvements while collaborating with QA and Dev teams to elevate automation

Qualifications

• Experience with testing, development, build and release tools.
• Experience with Puppet, Sonar, Jenkins, etc.
• Experience of writing Java.
• Experience developing software build and deploy plans and automation tools.
• Experience with Ant or Maven.
• Experience with Continuous Integration and with Continuous Delivery; CD/CI for web apps preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the build and deploy pipeline environment.
• Coach and train developers on best practices for efficiency.
• Automate release to manufacturing steps and optimize for continuous release at scale.
• Raise build and deploy infra issues and suggest improvements.
• Liaise with Build & Deploy Engineers across teams on common issues.
• Develop code for internal and external web applications and push automation forward.

Steel Thread Software, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Build and Release Engineer who is looking to join a fast-paced start-up environment working with both commercial and Government clients.

Qualifications

Skills & Requirements

Key Results Area:

• Automate and optimize our software build and deployment system, ensuring we measure and minimize the time from commit to customer
• Ensuring the system can be used to release software to both hosted and download customers rapidly, correctly, whenever required and without downtime
• Make sure build and deployment processes are following known best practices, with fellow developers following these practices
• Build, extend and maintain the software release pipeline system, ruthlessly minimizing the feedback loop for developers and release time to for customers
• Education of the team on the best use of build, deployment and other tools
• Repeatability of the release management process for the development team
• Scale pipeline to support more customers, systems and developers

Main Activities:

Including but not limited to:

• Building and maintaining the build and deploy pipeline environment
• Coach and train developers on best practices that help them become more efficient
• Automating release to manufacturing steps, optimizing for continuous release and deployments to scale
• Raise build and deploy infrastructure issues and potential improvements with Build and Deploy Engineering Teams
• Liaise with Build & Deploy Engineers in other teams on a regular basis on common issues
• Performing other software development tasks, such as developing code for internal and external web applications
• Working with QA and Dev team to push the envelope on known best practices for automation, always improving them

Key Skills and Experience:

• Experience and knowledge of various testing, development, build and release tools
• Experience with Puppet, Sonar, Jenkins, etc.
• Experience of writing Java
• Experience developing software build and deploy plans. Experience with software build and deploy automation tools
• Experience with Ant or Maven
• Experience with Continuous Integration
• Experience with Continuous Delivery and continuously available webapps preferred

Desired Skills:

• BS or MS in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of wok experience in a corporate development environment.
• Experience in a fast-paced, agile environment
