Job summary

Dougherty County is seeking a Chief Appraiser to oversee all real and personal property assessments for the annual tax digest. The role supervises appraisal staff, coordinates valuation schedules in the CAMA system, and ensures accuracy of tax records and maps across the county.

You will interpret laws before the Board of Equalization, handle disputes, and prepare the operating budget request for the Tax Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate, Accounting, Business Management or related field with five years of related experience; three years in supervisory roles.
• Four years of computerized work processing and spreadsheet experience.
• Must possess and maintain Georgia Driver’s License and be certified as Appraiser IV per Georgia State Standards.

Description

The Dougherty County Tax Department has a vacancy for a Chief Appraiser. Employee in this position is responsible for supervising assessments of all real and personal property for the preparation of the annual County Tax Digest.

Salary

Minimum is $57,656.96 (DOQ)

Essential Tasks

Responsibilities include, but not limited to, maintaining all tax records and maps for the county, mapping of property divisions and new subdivisions, platting, cataloging, conducting on-site inspections, indexing all real and personal property, and maintaining all data in a current condition. Develops and implements schedules and procedures for the valuation of real and personal property in the CAMA system; plans, assigns, evaluates and supervises the work of real and personal property appraisal staff; prepares and mails assessment notices after the county board of assessors has determined the final assessments.

Resonsible for interpreting laws and regulations regarding appraisal values, schedules and methods before the Board of Equalization for unresolved dusputes, certifies and files unresolved appeals in Superior Court. Responsible for responding to and resolving property assessment disputes, taking property tax returns and homestead exemption applications, preparing the Public Utility Digest, and prepares and submits the annual operating budget request to Tax Director.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate, Accounting, Business Management or related field and five (5) years of work related experience, three (3) of which must be progressively responsible management or supervisory experience; or any related equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill and ability to do the work of the position.

Must have four (4) years of computerized work processing and spreadsheet experience and desired knowledge of CAMA system, preferably in WinGap.

Must possess and maintain a Georgia Driver's License and be certified as an Appraiser IV in accordance with Georgia State Standards.
