The City of Stockton is seeking to fill two positions at the Budget Analyst I, Budget Analyst II, or Senior level in its central budget office. The positions will be filled at the appropriate level depending upon experience. The ideal candidates will possess strong analytical skills, be proficient in a variety of business and financial computer applications, have government experience, project management experience, and possess excellent oral and written customer service skills. Prior central budgeting and accounting experience in a government entity is desirable. The incumbent will work a City of Stockton 9/80 schedule: 8:00am - 6:00pm Mondays through Thursdays; 8:00am to 5:00pm on working Fridays, with alternating Fridays off.

Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting.
Under general direction, plans, organizes, and administers specialized City programs and projects, directs and coordinates the work of assigned professional and support staff, performs analytical analyses, develops, monitors, and reports Citywide operating and capital improvement budgets; responsible for policy development and program planning and implementation with Citywide implications; and performs related work as assigned.
This is an at-will deep class in which incumbents may be assigned to any level, provided that they possess the required education and experience, and successfully demonstrate proficiency which meets the qualifications for the class to which they are to be assigned.
Initially under close supervision in the central budget office of the City, incumbents perform the more routine analytical duties while learning City policies and procedures and specific techniques related to Citywide budget process and systems including position and labor financial work. As experience is gained, assignments become more diversified and are performed under more general supervision.
is the journey-level class of the series, fully competent to perform responsible and difficult analytical and budget monitoring including financial work relative to positions and labor. This position is under general supervision in the central budget office of the City. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment in selecting analytical techniques and in making sound recommendations. This class is distinguished from Senior Budget Analyst in that the latter is the highest level in this series, responsible for the development and administration of Citywide operating and capital improvement budgets.
is the advanced level in this Budget Analyst series. In addition to the full range of professional Budget Analyst duties and responsibilities, incumbents may act in a lead capacity. The Senior Budget Analyst must be knowledgeable in all areas of the Budget division, and performs the most complex and difficult analytical work, including forecasting and financial monitoring of positions and labor related work. This position is under supervision in the central budget office of the City. The major emphasis of the work relates to coordinating the preparation implementation and monitoring of Citywide budgets, including developing financial projections.
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, economics, business or public administration, or a closely related field. A Master's Degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
