American Electric Power is seeking a Budget Analyst to support planning, budgeting, and analysis for O&M and Capital expenditures. You will prepare forecasts, variance analyses, and ad-hoc reports to inform decisions across operations, capital projects, and regulatory responses.

The role requires cross-functional coordination with corporate finance, planning, and operating units, with opportunities across multiple grade levels and advancement paths.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Engineering is required.
  • Prior experience in a functional Business Unit is preferred.
  • Knowledge of UI Budgets, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, and Business Objects reporting is desirable.

Responsabilités

  • Support planning and budgeting for O&M and Capital resources, including long-range forecasts and budgets.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly variance reports.
  • Produce ad-hoc analyses to support operational decisions.
  • Coordinate with finance and planning to ensure policy compliance and efficiency.

What you'll do:
  • Support the planning and budgeting activities for the O&M and Capital resource allocation process; including long-range forecasts, detail budgets, re-projections and contingency plans.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly variance reports
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports as needed to support analysis.
  • Support decisions and analysis affecting operations and maintenance activities, capital investment, customer service, and profitability objections.
  • Assist in routing and approval process for Improvement Requisition; ensuring that Authorization Policy and IR Procedures are followed
  • Engage in developing and improving standardized processes surrounding budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and improvement requisitions.
  • Perform special studies, analysis, investigations, and assignments as may be required.
  • Provide assistance in responding to regulatory and other data requests.
  • Assist in Financial Forecasting process alongside OPCO / Business Units within I&M it relates to Capital and O&M expenditures to resolve any potential issues.

The minimum qualifications outlined below apply to the Budget Analyst Associate level, with increased educational, skill, experience and certification requirements for higher levels of Budget Analyst.

Budget Analyst Associate – Grade 4 Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Engineering. No experience necessary.
  • Other Requirements: Physical demand level is Sedentary
  • Key Competencies: Communication, Teamwork, Initiative, Adaptability/Flexibility, Client Focus, Creativity, Planning/Organizing and Understanding the Business and Competition Prior experience in a functional Business Unit (Generation, Transmission, or Distribution), and/or Corporate Finance and/or Operating Company finance, and/or engineering related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge/utilization of UI Budgets, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, and Business Objects relational database reporting desired.
  • This position requires coordination with corporate finance, corporate planning & budgeting, accounting/tax, commercial operations, generation and transmission, regulatory, requiring the incumbent to work across functional boundaries.
  • Familiarity with AEP accounting and use of Chartfields desired.
Budget Analyst - Grade 6 Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Engineering along with 1 year of relevant experience. Or; Associates degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Engineering along with a minimum of 3 years or relevant experience.
  • Other Requirements: Physical demand level is Sedentary
  • Key Competencies: Communication, Teamwork, Initiative, Adaptability/Flexibility, Client Focus, Creativity, Planning/Organizing and Understanding the Business and Competition.
  • Prior experience in a functional Business Unit (Generation, Transmission, or Distribution), and/or Corporate Finance and/or Operating Company finance, and/or engineering related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge/utilization of UI Budgets, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, and Business Objects relational database reporting desired.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Engineering along with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. Or; Associates degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Engineering along with a minimum of 6 years or relevant experience.
  • Other Requirements: Key Competencies: Communication, Teamwork, Initiative, Adaptability/Flexibility, Client Focus, Creativity, Planning/Organizing and Understanding the Business and Competition.
  • Prior experience in a functional Business Unit (Generation, Transmission, or Distribution), and/or Corporate Finance and/or Operating Company finance, and/or engineering related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge/utilization of UI Budgets, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, and Business Objects relational database reporting desired.
  • This position requires coordination with corporate finance, corporate planning & budgeting, accounting/tax, commercial operations, generation and transmission, regulatory, requiring the incumbent to work across functional boundaries.
  • Familiarity with AEP accounting and use of Chartfields desired.
Preferred Skills:
  • Prior experience or strong demonstrated knowledge of PowerBi, Excel, Data Reporting via Systems, and Variance Analysis with prior utility company experience.

Compensation Data

Compensation Grade: SP20-004 Compensation Range: $54,063.00 - $109,543.00

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: S – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
