Job summary

Salem State University seeks a Budget Analyst to join the Budget and Financial Planning department. You will contribute to multi-year, all-funds budgets, monitor budget vs. actuals, and develop policies to strengthen internal controls.

You will produce standard and ad hoc analyses, including forecasts and quarterly revenue/expense projections, and present insights to colleagues and leadership to support resource allocation decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of budget or accounting experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with budget, accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and complex formulas; analytics with databases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop multi-year, all-funds budgets and monitor fiscal activity.
  • Contribute to internal controls through policy formulation and reporting.
  • Produce standard and ad hoc financial analyses, including forecasts.
  • Present budget information and train colleagues on budget management.

Description

The budget analyst is a key member of the Budget and Financial Planning department. The budget analyst contributes to the development of a multi-year, all funds budget. This individual contributes to a strong internal control environment through monitoring of budget and actual fiscal activity, formulation of policies and procedures, and interaction with departmental staff and faculty. The budget analyst is a resource for colleagues throughout the university, responding to inquiries, presenting budget information, and training colleagues on budget management and financial reporting. This position produces a variety of standard and ad hoc financial analyses including, but not limited to, multi-year budget forecasts, quarterly projections of revenues and expenses, and other reports to contribute to resource allocation decisions and internal controls.

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field

  • Demonstrated experience with budget, accounting, and financial analysis and reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, complex formulas, and analytics. Competency with other analytical tools such as relational databases and financial modeling
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience in public higher education administration
  • Experience using Peoplesoft Finance or other ERP system
  • Experience with Commonwealth of Massachusetts accounting procedures (MMARS)
  • Knowledgeable of GAAP and GASB
Working Location

This is a hybridpositionin Salem, MA with some on-campus, in-person responsibilities,which may require occasionalwork on evenings and weekends.

Employment is contingent upon a completed background and CORI check satisfactory to the university.
