  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, complex formulas, and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of a multi-year, all funds budget.
  • Monitor budget vs. actual activity and support internal controls.
  • Prepare standard and ad hoc financial analyses including multi-year forecasts and quarterly projections.
  • Respond to inquiries, present budget information, and train colleagues on budget management and reporting.
  • Support resource allocation decisions and internal controls through analysis.

Overview

The budget analyst is a key member of the Budget and Financial Planning department. The budget analyst contributes to the development of a multi-year, all funds budget. This individual contributes to a strong internal control environment through monitoring of budget and actual fiscal activity, formulation of policies and procedures, and interaction with departmental staff and faculty. The budget analyst is a resource for colleagues throughout the university, responding to inquiries, presenting budget information, and training colleagues on budget management and financial reporting. This position produces a variety of standard and ad hoc financial analyses including, but not limited to, multi-year budget forecasts, quarterly projections of revenues and expenses, and other reports to contribute to resource allocation decisions and internal controls.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field
  2. Three to five years of budget or accounting experience preferably in higher education
  3. Demonstrated experience with budget, accounting, and financial analysis and reporting
  4. Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, complex formulas, and analytics. Competency with other analytical tools such as relational databases and financial modeling
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field
  2. Experience in public higher education administration
  3. Experience using Peoplesoft Finance or other ERP system
  4. Professional certification (CMA, CPA, etc.)
  5. Experience with Commonwealth of Massachusetts accounting procedures (MMARS)
  6. Knowledgeable of GAAP and GASB
Working Location

This is a hybridpositionin Salem, MA with some on-campus, in-person responsibilities,which may require occasionalwork on evenings and weekends.

Employment is contingent upon a completed background and CORI check satisfactory to the university.
