Job summary

Bay Shore Steel Works (BSSW) in Charlevoix, MI, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support plant operations and perform preventative maintenance. You will troubleshoot equipment, repair components, and assist with HVAC tasks to keep the facility running smoothly.

Requirements include a trade-school certificate and 3–5 years of maintenance experience, plus the ability to read safety manuals and drawings. A valid driver's license and insurability are required.

Qualifications

• Certificate of completion from a trade school and 3 years of experience working as a Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Mechanic.
• High School diploma or GED.
• 3-5 years of experience working as a Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Mechanic; ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements.
• Effectively troubleshoot equipment to identify issues within the plant and take necessary corrective actions to repair, replace, or rebuild.
• Inspects/maintains plant buildings and facilities; may troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems.
• Perform other job functions to support the effective and efficient operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and drawings.
  • Experience with lockout/tag out.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements and safety focused.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk, climb stairs, reach, and stoop frequently as well as lift weights up to 50lbs. Occasional lifting of up to 80lbs is also required. Must be able to work at heights. Good vision, hearing, color vision, speaking, and finger dexterity skills are required as well as the ability to perform close work in a confined space.
  • A Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be insurable with GTED insurance carrier.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and reach
• Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated heights when required
• Regularly lifts up to 60 lbs.; lifting occasionally up to 100 lbs.
