As a Medical Interpreter with Banner Staffing Services, you will be an important part of the healthcare team, providing English/Spanish interpretation services for patients/companions with limited English proficiency that we encounter throughout the hospital, including patient/provider communication. You will be involved during every aspect of the patient stay, from registration to discharge. Effective communications skills and knowledge of medical terminology is required. Completion of a Medical Interpreter training program highly preferred One year work experience as a Medical Interpreter required Written and oral language assessment will be required Banner Staffing Services (BSS) offers Registry/Per Diem opportunities within Banner Health. We have two shifts available working 3 days a week: 5AM-5PM 5PM-5AM In addition to one weekend shift required per month and one major holiday as needed Registry/Per Diem positions do not have guaranteed hours and no medical benefits package is offered. Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check (includes; employment, criminal and education) is required.
This position provides interpretation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and their families. This position acts as a neutral party in the role as a conduit of information between healthcare providers and patients and families.
Must possess a level of knowledge typically acquired through the completion of an associate's degree in communications or health care related field or equivalent experience. Requires fluency in English and target language of interpretation and a proficiency level typically achieved with 1 year of experience as an interpreter. Requires an understanding of medical terminology. Effective 9/1/2019, all new hires or transfers into the role must pass a written and oral exam with a score of 75% or above. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, problem solving, strong human relations skills, organizational and time management skills and flexibility in responding to multiple demands.
Bachelor’s degree in communications or health care related field. Completion of a medical interpreter skills training course including learning the code of ethics and standards of practice. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
