Job summary

AHRC New York City is seeking a School Aide for Brooklyn Blue Feather in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. This part-time/per-diem role runs Monday–Friday from 8:45 A.M. to 2:45 P.M. during a 10-month program with a 30-day summer session.

Under the supervision of the Teacher/Behavior Trainer, you will support and implement student objectives per IEP, provide direct care, help with arrivals/dismissals, and participate in activities outside class while ensuring safety and appropriate care.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
• HS Diploma required.
• Part-time/per-diem role.

Responsibilities

• Follow daily plans and support student objectives per IEP.
• Provide direct care including toileting, dressing, and feeding.
• Assist with arrival and dismissal of student.
• Participate in activities outside classroom; ensure safety.
• Understand disability, know IEP objectives, and be aware of medical alerts (EPOP).

• Under the direction of the Teacher/ Behavior Trainer, follow the daily activity schedule/lesson plans and support and guide the implementation of a students objectives as indicated in his/her IEP.
• Provide direct care services to student as needed, including toileting, dressing and feeding, in an instructional manner so as to provide the basis of future independent student action.
• Participate in the arrival and dismissal of student as needed.
• Participate in activities outside the classroom when necessary (e.g. playground, field trips, gym etc.); interact with the student; and address the students safety and physical needs.
• Understand the nature of the students disability and its impact on the students performance; be familiar with the students IEP objectives including the educational purpose and methodology; be familiar with the students medical alerts and EPOP (Enhanced Protective Oversight Plan)
