NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development seeks an Agency Attorney to lead the Bronx Unit in litigating housing maintenance matters and enforcing the Housing Maintenance Code.

The role requires NYS Bar admission and several years of US legal experience, with strong negotiation and written communication skills. Collaboration across divisions helps protect tenants and ensure code compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience litigating complex housing maintenance cases.
• Experience litigating issues involving tenant harassment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient with Excel and Word.
• Familiarity with HPD internal databases including LMS and HPDINFO.

Responsibilities

• Litigate complex cases as Senior Staff Attorney, Bronx Unit.
• Supervise and manage the Bronx Unit staff.
• Negotiate on behalf of the agency in difficult matters.
• Review, revise and approve agreements prepared by other attorneys.
• Confer disputes between landlords and tenants regarding housing code violations.
• Prepare and review briefs, motions, opinions, affidavits and other legal papers.
