Job summary

Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. is seeking a Dispatch Assistant to coordinate truck driver activities and support staffing, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and timely delivery.

The role requires knowledge of DOT rules, excellent communication, and the ability to mentor CDL drivers. You will work closely with the office manager and drivers to maintain efficient routes, track PTO, and ensure product delivery targets are met while upholding the company’s core values and service

Qualifications

• 3-6 years of transportation and 3rd party dispatch experience in sourcing and developing carriers and routing.
• High School diploma or GED; college degree preferred.
• Data entry and high-volume phone skills.
• Computer experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and resolve conflicts.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch delivery routes and make changes as required.
• Assist in onboarding new drivers and track PTO.
• Coordinate driver schedules to ensure timely product delivery.
• Maintain on-time delivery performance of 97% or better.
• Daily communication with drivers, customers, shippers and management.
• Manage tendering via TMS to source lowest-cost provider.
• Record and report driver hours and miles; support payroll.
• Keep paperwork current and coordinate with third-party carriers.
• Handle high-volume phone and data-entry tasks with accuracy.

Purpose of Position:

Assist in coordinating the activities of Tricont truck drivers. Role model and demonstrate the Company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of self and others. The Dispatch Assistant also plays a vital role in ensuring the company’s continued success by ensuring they are dependable, focused on safety and to be flexible and cooperative. The Dispatch Assistant should have knowledge of DOT rules and regulations and possess the ability to help with staffing, recruiting, and mentoring CDL Drivers.

Accountabilities:

• Provide superior customer service to both internal and external customers by exceeding their expectations
• Dispatch delivery routes and make changes as and when required
• Assisting office manager with onboarding new drivers
• Record drivers PTO to send to payroll
• Coordinate and manage schedules of drivers to ensure product is delivered on time
• Daily communication with drivers, customers, shippers and management
• Manage tendering process via TMS to route the lowest cost provider
• Track drivers log such as dispatched orders and arrival times
• Record monthly tractor/trailer miles and reefer hours
• Order and arrange cleaning of driver’s uniforms
• Maintain on time Delivery performance of 97% or better
• Update/track carrier/driver location information within company guidelines
• Coordinate with 3rd party carrier on loads tendered
• Managing demurrage, detention, and other accessorial costs with customer and carrier
• Assist with the pickup and drop-off of trucks to the vendor shop
• Keep paperwork for trucks current
• Work hours - 40 + hours per week as needed (Monday - Friday)
• High School diploma or GED, but college degree preferred
• 3-6 years of transportation and 3rd party dispatch experience in sourcing and developing carriers and routing.
• Work independently, great communicator & customer service skills
• Ability to coordinate high volume phone skills
• Computer experience with Microsoft products like excel and email
