Job summary

Gallagher in Charlotte, NC is seeking an entry-level underwriter to assess property and casualty risks under supervision. You will apply guidelines to decide on standard or substandard policies and collaborate with field teams to gather information for underwriting decisions.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with no prior experience required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills are essential, with a supportive, growth-focused culture and opportunities

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, underwrites individual insurance applications to cover property and casualty with guidelines set for the issuance of policies on a standard or substandard basis.
• Determines whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of the property's value, location, usage, and safety features, and other information pertinent to the decision.
• Has frequent contact with field to gather information on which to base and defend underwriting decisions. Does not have any assigned Production or Service goals.
• Works with all underwriting teams to gain knowledge of service and operational process and procedures.
