WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Broadcast Systems Engineer is responsible for managing the operation, upkeep, and performance of the IMSP control and technical rooms. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work both collaboratively within the engineering team and independently under pressure.

As a key part of our engineering group, you’ll ensure smooth production operations, provide technical leadership, and deliver a high-quality experience for fans, partners, and team.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain the control and tech rooms, ensuring all systems are operational.
  • Install, maintain, and repair all systems.
  • Establish and QC audio, video, and data signals from remote broadcast sites.
  • Work with transmission engineer supporting Indianapolis-based streaming equipment.
  • Manage shipping and receiving at IMSP field shop.
  • Review and confirm remote orders at least 72 hours prior to events, resolving discrepancies in advance.
  • Provide timely and accurate technical reports within 24 hours of event completion.
  • Maintain a detailed maintenance log and ensure follow-up on repairs.
  • Lead the technical crew on-site, assisting with IMSP-owned or rented equipment.
  • Support production staff with event setup and execution.
  • Serve as IMSP’s on-site engineering representative, acting in alignment with company values and interests.
  • Consistently demonstrate professionalism and prioritize client satisfaction.
  • Monitor technology trends, recommend equipment or capital needs, and provide input on the condition of the mobile unit and required parts.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external partners.
  • Other duties as assigned by IMSP leadership.

Required Experience & Skills:
  • Experience as an Engineer in Charge of mobile units or large-scale remote productions (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of the theory and practice of broadcast video production.
  • Familiarity with 2110 standards and applications.
  • Expertise in the design, implementation, maintenance, and use of complex broadcast and presentation systems in a fixed facility environment, including interpreting technical manuals and drawings.
  • Proficiency with broadcast test equipment used to evaluate analog, digital, and 2110 signals, including meters, waveform monitors, vector scopes, spectrum analyzers, and computer communication interfaces.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, industry standards, and applicable laws, codes, regulations, and policies related to broadcast and remote television production.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact, patience, and professionalism.
  • Record-keeping and report preparation experience.
  • Proficiency in basic computer operations including Microsoft Office Suite and email.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to supervise and lead crews.
  • Self-motivated problem-solver with the ability to adapt in fast-paced, live-event environments.
  • Skilled in client relations and committed to delivering exceptional service.

Leadership:
  • This position provides on-site supervision of seasonal crew assigned to the mobile unit and is responsible for planning, organizing, prioritizing, and overseeing all broadcast activities.
FLEXIBILITY & TRAVEL
  • Extended hours required during race weekends and key event periods (especially May)
  • Teams work collaboratively to provide schedule flexibility when possible.
  • May be required to travel on a limited basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of standing or walking (as needed)
  • Comfort working indoors/outdoors and around event noise
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Working conditions are mainly inside of the IMSP facility, although outside work may need to be performed based on business demands
  • Must be adaptable and able to perform effectively under frequent, high-pressure, or emergency conditions.
