Description & Requirements

Smarter, faster, and as always — First. That's our philosophy.

Bloomberg Media empowers global business leaders with breaking news, expert opinion, and proprietary data distributed across every platform and every time zone. Like our products and solutions, our teams are agile, dynamic, and innovative. We work hard and we work fast, while maintaining the quality and accuracy for which Bloomberg is known. It's what keeps us inventing and reinventing, all the time.

Around the clock and around the globe, Bloomberg's Broadcast Engineering Group supports live production for Television, Radio, and digital platforms. From our world headquarters in New York City, you will do much more than keep the lights on. With more than 2,300 news professionals in 150 bureaus across 73 countries, we face exciting technical challenges every minute of every day.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Broadcast Support Engineer to join our Media Technology Engineering team. This role supports, maintains, upgrades, and installs complex broadcast and media systems for live television, radio, studio production, contribution, and digital distribution.

You will work across the media signal chain — from cameras, audio, control rooms, intercom, and baseband systems through IP routing, contribution codecs, processing, monitoring, storage, and digital distribution. The successful candidate will be technically curious, comfortable troubleshooting complex production‑critical systems, and able to work effectively across engineering, operations, IT/networking teams, and vendors.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Support and troubleshoot broadcast and media systems used for live Television, Radio, studio production, contribution, and digital distribution.
  • Respond to on‑air and production‑critical issues, diagnosing problems across broadcast, networking, compute, storage, and application technologies.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, test, and maintain broadcast equipment, servers, applications, storage, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Monitor critical systems, logs, alarms, and scheduled processes to identify and resolve issues before they impact production.
  • Perform system diagnostics, preventative maintenance, performance tuning, and hardware and software upgrades.
  • Work with engineering, operations, networking, infrastructure, vendors, and other technology teams to resolve issues and implement new systems.
  • Participate in technology refreshes, system commissioning, testing, and acceptance.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, system diagrams, procedures, and configuration records.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging broadcast, IP, cloud, and software‑defined media technologies.
Experience and skills should include:
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical engineering or support role. Broadcast, media, or live production experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work quickly and independently during high‑pressure, production‑critical situations.
  • Working knowledge of television and radio broadcast systems including cameras, robotics, audio, intercom, production switchers, routing, signal processing, automation, monitoring, and contribution technologies.
  • Understanding of broadcast signal flow, SDI/baseband systems, and IP‑based media transport and routing.
  • Strong understanding of IT technologies including TCP/IP networking, Windows, Linux, macOS, servers, storage, and system administration.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and adapt as broadcast systems continue to evolve toward IP, virtualization, cloud, and software‑defined architectures.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work a schedule that will include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and support for critical production events.
Additional experience that would be a plus:
  • Scripting or software development experience with PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience with virtualization and cloud platforms such as VMware, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with broadcast‑over‑IP technologies and standards such as SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, NDI, SRT, RIST, RTP, and multicast.
  • Familiarity with media encoding, transcoding, streaming, OTT distribution, and contribution workflows.
  • Experience with monitoring platforms, shared storage/NAS/SAN, media asset management, or newsroom and broadcast automation systems.
