Job summary

FOX 5 DC / FOX 5 Plus is seeking a Broadcast Stagehand for per diem part-time work in the DC metro area. You will support daily productions, handling scene placement, lighting, and set elements, while ensuring safety and efficiency in a fast-paced studio environment.

The role requires a high school diploma (college/technical degree preferred), 3 years of relevant live production experience, a valid local driver’s license, and the ability to lift up to 70 lbs.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) is required. A 2-4 year college/technical degree is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent, relevant experience as a stagehand, set technician, or similar role in a live broadcast, theatrical, or production environment.
• Driving: Must have, or be willing to obtain, a valid local driver’s license (DC, MD, VA), be able to drive, and maintain a clean MVR and insurance eligibility.
• Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs; sit/stand for extended periods; climb stairs, ladders, bend, squat, kneel, twist.

Responsibilities

• Scene Management: Place and operate studio scenes and structures, including setup and takedown of sets, backdrops, and furniture according to daily production needs.
• Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repair on scenic elements, structures, and studio equipment.
• Lighting Operation: Assist with placement and operation of studio lighting, including hanging, focusing, and maintaining lighting devices.
• Tool Competence: Use hand tools and power tools safely for set construction, modification, and repair.
• Technical Communication: Maintain proficiency with computers and email; training on studio operations and scheduling systems.
• Logistics & Travel: Occasional travel between locations may be required; deliver and pick up materials offsite as needed.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
