Job summary

South Dakota Public Broadcasting is seeking a part-time, temporary Broadcast Operations Technician to operate and monitor television and radio transmitting equipment in Vermillion, SD. Responsibilities include reading meters, observing transmitter components, and assisting with minor maintenance. Shift includes some evenings and overnight hours in a climate-controlled room.

This role is non-benefited and EXEMPT from civil service, with a schedule of 24 hours per week and per diem as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.
• Familiarity with FCC rules and broadcasting operations.
• Proficiency with Windows and MS Office; reading meters and monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities

Description :

South Dakota Public Broadcasting is a statewide, joint radio and television network, that is also South Dakota’s NPR and PBS affiliates. We seek an energetic, organized, and goal-focused professional to operate and monitor television and radio transmitting equipment. Incumbents will complete this by reading meters, observing transmitter components and observing equipment for possible problems. This role also assists in minor maintenance of broadcast equipment and switching of video and audio sources.

General Requirements :

Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of:

• broadcast operations;
• Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations;
• IP networking;
• electronics terminology.

Ability to:

• navigate MS Windows folders and files;
• use MS Office products;
• take meter readings;
• work independently.

Other Information :

Position is 24 hours per week. Schedule requires some evenings and overnight shifts in a climate controlled room.

Please note this is a temporary, non-benefited position, exempt from civil service.
