Job summary

WCSC, a Gray Media-owned CBS affiliate in Charleston, SC, seeks a Broadcast Engineer to support programming and post-production, perform quality control, and assist with transmitter and IT equipment maintenance.

The engineer will work daily with Sales, News, and Production, following Gray and FCC guidelines, and bring 5 years of broadcast experience with current OS/software, networking, and automation to the team.

Qualifications

• 5 years of professional television broadcast experience and familiarity with current OS software, servers, and networking.
• Knowledge of broadcast A/V equipment and IP communication/control.
• Experience with newsroom automation and live production environments.

Responsibilities

• Support all engineering aspects of the facility including studio, post-editing, field production, and live transmission of events/programs.
• Maintain and troubleshoot transmitter and IT equipment; ensure QC of video/audio quality.
• Collaborate with IT, Sales, News, and Production; adhere to FCC/Gray standards.

Job Summary/Description:

WCSC, a Gray Media-owned CBS affiliate in Charleston, SC, is seeking a Broadcast Engineer. The Engineer will support all programming and post-production at WCSC. The engineer will perform quality control measurements to ensure proper video and audio quality is maintained through all broadcast systems and assist local production teams as needed. Duties will include troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast and IT equipment, including transmitter equipment. The engineer interacts daily with Sales, News, and Production staff and will be required to follow all WCSC/GRAY and FCC standards and guidelines.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Support all engineering aspects of the technical facility including studio support, post-editing systems, field production support, and transmission of live/recorded events & programs
• Work with technology staff to implement and maintain "crossover" computer systems to Audio/Video Systems
• Maintain equipment and support users for On Air and Live Production automation systems
• Perform regular maintenance tasks including repairs, equipment replacement, supplies, etc.
• Ensure all transmission equipment is operating correctly before and during live event telecasts - corrects and documents technical problems
• Work with IT Director to design, implement, and maintain computer systems, licensing, and network security
• Assist with implementing Engineering projects
• Assist with building maintenance needs

Qualifications/Requirements:

• 5 years of professional television broadcast experience, including the latest operating systems software (including server & desktop), email systems, FTP Servers, TCP/IP Networking
• Knowledge of Broadcast A/V equipment combined with serial and IP communication and control
• Knowledge regarding broadcast equipment, technology, and systems, and be able to step in and assist in emergencies
• Experience with Crispin Master Control and News Automation preferred
• Knowledge of Bit Central and ENPS News systems preferred
• Knowledge of professional video photography equipment and techniques
• Ability to operate in high-pressure situations
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to all work situations
• Must be able to work varying hours and weekends
• Must be available to work during breaking news situations, severe weather, new system integrations, and updates
• A Bachelor's Degree or similar certification is preferred
• Previous work experience in engineering is considered
