Job summary

Elon University seeks a senior broadcast engineer to lead technical operations for on-campus video productions, coordinating with providers and clients for diverse events. You will direct software and network configurations, plan production days, and manage setup/breakdown of equipment across control rooms, studios, and venues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical operations for video productions and broadcasts, including configuration, troubleshooting, and day-of production for live video, IMAG, streaming, and capture.
  • Act as engineer-in-charge and coordinate with service providers and clients for a variety of broadcasts, including live sports, student studio shows, and university events.
  • Direct software configuration, IT networking basics, PC support, production day planning and troubleshooting, and setup/breakdown of events.
  • Occasionally serve as executive producer for high-profile university events.
  • Maintain facilities: campuses' control rooms, TV studios, athletic venues, and fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Perform OS updates, build and repair audio/video cables/connectors, and provide routine troubleshooting and support.
  • Be on-call to aid any technical problems and ensure smooth event execution.
  • Lead and manage a team of student broadcast engineers, including staffing, training, onboarding, scheduling, and workflow design.
  • Provide training and support to Elon School of Communications production crews, athletes, faculty, and class productions.
  • Assist graphics design and implementation using Ross Xpression, collaborating with campus partners.
  • Develop technical standards for Elon’s broadcast graphics packages and automate statistics/text in graphics for athletics and campus projects.

Job description

Job Duties
  • Lead technical operations for video productions and broadcasts, including configuration, technical troubleshooting, and day-of production for live video, IMAG, streaming, and capture.
  • Acting as the engineer-in-charge and coordinate with service providers and clients for a variety of broadcasts, including live sports broadcasts, student studio shows, and university events.
  • Directing support includes software configuration, basic IT networking skills, PC support, production day planning and troubleshooting, set-up and breakdown of events, and ensuring proper equipment usage.
  • Occasionally serving as the executive producer for high-profile university events.
  • Average breakdown of types of events: Athletics (70%), Studio Shows (20%), University Events (10%).
  • Provide routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and support of Elon University's video production facilities and equipment. Locations include all control rooms, TV studios, and athletic venues.
  • Upkeep of fiber optic infrastructure
  • Performing regular updates of operating systems
  • Creating and repairing audio and video cables/connectors
  • Performing regular troubleshooting and support
  • Being available and on-call to aid any technical problems
  • Lead and manage a team of student broadcast engineers who support any of Elon's broadcasts. Includes being in charge of all staffing, training/development, onboarding, and scheduling. Also requires designing internal workflow and communication processes to involve students in ongoing projects within the team and creating opportunities for professional development.
  • Provide training and support to the School of Communications' production crews, Elon Sports Vision students, faculty, and class productions. Training efforts are focused on ensuring the safe and effective use of broadcast equipment.
  • Assists the Elon Sports Vision producer and the Chief Engineer in graphics design and implementation using Ross Xpression software and hardware, in conjunction with campus partners.
  • Developing technical standards for Elon's broadcast graphics packages
  • Implementing automated statistics and customizable text into graphics packages for athletics, Elon News Network, and other projects
  • This position also serves as a contact and resource for broadcast graphics (Xpression) training to students, faculty, and staff on campus.
