Job summary

SAG-AFTRA is seeking a Broadcast Business Representative to negotiate and enforce broadcast collective bargaining agreements, handling terms and conditions of employment for broadcast employees.

You will support member benefits, assist Locals’ staff and boards, and conduct outreach through station visits and bargaining unit meetings, with travel as needed in the Washington–Mid Atlantic Local. This is a full-time role based in Bethesda, MD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least five years’ labor relations experience.
  • Ability to negotiate and advocate with tact and diplomacy.
  • Knowledge of worker rights affecting SAG-AFTRA members.

Job description

Protect the interests of SAG-AFTRA and its members by negotiating and enforcing SAG-AFTRA broadcast collective bargaining agreements in all matters relating to the terms and conditions of employment for broadcast employees, as well as member outreach through station visits and bargaining unit meetings. Supports staff in internal and external organizing for broadcast stations within the geographic scope of the Washington - Mid Atlantic Local. Provide support to members with their health and retirement benefits. Support the Locals’ staff, Board of Directors and broadcast member committees by providing advice and opinions on issues as needed.

  • Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined at SAG-AFTRA's sole discretion.
  • Must be available and willing to work extended hours per day or per week, including weekends and holidays, as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs.
  • Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or at least five years’ experience, preferably with a labor organization or in the field of labor relations, focusing on contract negotiations, contract administration, dispute resolution, and employee benefits.
  • Must have a current driver's license, automobile (in reliable working condition), and current automobile insurance that meets the state minimum requirements.
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
  • Experience in labor negotiations, collective bargaining, labor organizations or union organizing preferred.
  • Knowledge of entertainment and/or news and broadcast industry a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
