The Collective in New Britain, CT is seeking an IPM Technician to manage pest and disease prevention within our cultivation facility. You will oversee all pesticide applications and IPM protocols, ensuring health, safety, and regulatory compliance while supporting cultivation operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Cultivation, greenhouse, nursery, agricultural, or horticultural experience preferred
  • Experience with pesticide application or Integrated Pest Management is preferred but not required
  • Medically cleared to wear a respirator and complete fit testing per Respiratory Protection Program

Responsibilities

  • Perform all pesticide applications including foliar sprays, root drenches, and other treatment methods
  • Apply biological controls as part of the IPM program
  • Maintain proper mixing, dosing, and application techniques per product labels and SOPs
  • Utilize PPE at all times during pesticide handling and application
  • Maintain strict adherence to state, local, and federal regulations governing pesticide use
  • Accurately document all applications with product, batch, timing, and dosage
  • Conduct routine plant inspections to identify pests, pathogens, and health issues
  • Record daily logs of pesticide applications and scouting reports
  • Coordinate treatment schedules with cultivation teams and provide IPM guidance
  • Support sanitation protocols to prevent contamination and maintain biosecurity
  • Assist with inspections or audits with proper documentation

Job description

Position Overview

The IPM Technician is responsible for executing and managing all pest and disease prevention strategies within the cultivation facility. This role plays a critical part in maintaining plant health, product safety, and regulatory compliance by overseeing all pesticide applications and integrated pest management protocols. Reporting to the Director of Cultivation, the IPM Technician ensures all treatments are applied safely, effectively, and in full compliance with state, local, and federal regulations and company SOPs.

Key Responsibilities
Pesticide Application & Treatment Execution
  • Perform all pesticide applications including foliar sprays, root drenches, and other treatment methods
  • Apply biological controls such as beneficial insects as part of the IPM program
  • Ensure proper mixing, dosing, and application techniques in accordance with product labels and SOPs
  • Utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times during pesticide handling and application in accordance with product labels, safety guidelines, and company SOPs
Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain strict adherence to all applicable state, local, and federal regulations governing pesticide use
  • Accurately document all applications, including product used, batch information, timing, and dosage
  • Ensure all pesticide use aligns with approved materials and regulatory guidelines
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of all pesticides and application materials in compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations and company SOPs
Plant Scouting & Pest Monitoring
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify pests, pathogens, and plant health issues
  • Track and report pest pressure trends and treatment effectiveness
  • Communicate findings and recommend treatment adjustments to management
Sanitation & Prevention
  • Execute sanitation protocols to prevent contamination and pest outbreaks
  • Maintain clean application equipment and properly store all pesticides and materials
  • Support facility-wide biosecurity efforts
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper PPE use, to maintain a safe and contamination‑free work environment
Data Recording & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of pesticide applications and scouting reports
  • Ensure all records meet compliance and audit standards
  • Assist in preparing documentation for inspections or audits
Collaboration & Operational Support
  • Work closely with cultivation teams to coordinate treatment schedules
  • Provide guidance on IPM best practices to cultivation staff
  • Assist with general cultivation activities as needed, including plant maintenance, harvesting, post‑harvest processing, trimming, and packaging
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
  • Ability to stand on feet for up to 8.5 hours per shift
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in cultivation environments with varying temperatures, humidity levels, and PPE requirements
  • Must be able to safely wear required respiratory protection, including tight‑fitting respirators, for extended periods while performing assigned job duties
  • Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous cultivation, greenhouse, nursery, agricultural, or horticultural experience preferred
  • Experience with pesticide application or Integrated Pest Management is preferred but not required
  • Must be medically cleared to wear a respirator and successfully complete all required respirator fit testing in accordance with the Company’s Respiratory Protection Program prior to performing respirator‑required job duties
  • Must successfully complete all required company training for IPM, safety, PPE, respiratory protection, and regulatory compliance
  • Must pass all state‑required background checks
  • Must maintain compliance with all company policies and state regulations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while following direction from supervisors
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple operational areas
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cultivation recordkeeping systems preferred
