Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation in Salem, OR, seeks a Professional Engineer 2 – State Structure Quality Engineer (Underfill Option) to oversee statewide structure quality and construction inspection practices. The role requires licensure in Civil or Structural Engineering in Oregon or eligibility for licensure within six months, plus several years of licensed experience.

Travel statewide is required; underfill training may be available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Possession of a Civil Engineering (CE) license in the State of Oregon OR ability to obtain license within six months of hire.
• Possession of a Structural Engineering (SE) license in the State of Oregon OR ability to obtain license within six months of hire.
• Three years of licensed experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of the position.
• Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain a temporary permit to practice engineering within six months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Identify solutions and resolve problems encountered while constructing bridges and other structures.
• Provide expert construction inspection instruction and support to inspectors and other field personnel.
• Visit all structure construction project sites frequently to monitor construction processes and issues; drive a passenger vehicle statewide.
• Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with field construction personnel and contractors.
• Review and inspect structure construction projects for adherence to specifications and conformance to best practices.
• Recommend improvements to structure designs, specifications, materials and construction practices.
• Develop and administer the Bridge Construction Inspector Training Program; train field personnel.
• Provide technical expertise on constructability of structure designs and review plans prior to advertisement.
• Investigate new methods or equipment used in construction of structures.
• Assemble and correlate data from projects and prepare reports with recommended changes.
