Job description

BRIDGE PRACTICE

Michael Baker International has addressed bridge design, construction, and preservation challenges with innovative and sustainable solutions. Exemplifying its depth and versatility in the bridge space, Michael Baker International, ranked Number Five by Engineering News-Record in its annual ranking of Bridge Design Firms in the United States, has partnered with clients on a full spectrum of bridge types—from conventional grade separations to major, complex river crossings, including trusses, arches, box girders, and cable-stayed bridges.

DESCRIPTION

The Bridge Project Manager is responsible for the pursuit and delivery of transportation design-related projects involving preliminary engineering and plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) projects with the local Iowa office. The selected Senior Bridge Engineer will perform structural design, technical oversight, staff development, contract management, technical and cost proposal development, and project management for targeted Iowa statewide and regional clients. With a REMOTE work schedule, you'll enjoy the perfect balance of flexibility and collaboration.

The Bridge Project Manager will openly share technical knowledge and mentor and supervise engineers in assignments such as preparing studies, reports, and supporting documentation; quantities and construction cost estimates; and construction drawings needed for bridge, public works, and transportation design-related projects. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience on new, widening, retrofit, and replacement bridge projects, culverts, and retaining wall projects with the Iowa DOT and AASHTO LRFD design standards. This is a structural design position; we will only consider candidates with skills and experience in that area of expertise.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review project proposals or plans to determine scope, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing the project, and staffing requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel on specific tasks.
  • Prepare scope of work and cost estimates for proposals.
  • Manage staff utilization by scheduling, monitoring, and revising assignments.
  • Present both oral and written formats.
  • Provide quality control and quality assurance for bridge design projects of simple and complex nature.
  • Perform technical analyses, calculations, and design tasks as needed.
  • Occasional to moderate travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Engineering Management, or similar.
  • Iowa P.E. license is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in bridge design and transportation engineering, with a minimum of 2 years managing bridge-related projects or tasks.
  • Familiarity with Iowa DOT standards and procedures.
  • Proficiency with bridge analysis and design software programs.
  • Experience using MicroStation and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to lead and interact with multi-disciplined teams.
  • Background in business development, proposal writing, networking, and strong listening skills for client needs is preferred.
COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $97,593 to $155,017. This range is a good faith estimate at the time of posting and depends on education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
