Job summary

The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking a Bridge Inspector for the Bridge and Structure Maintenance Division. The incumbent will examine bridges and related structures for compliance with federal, state, and city codes, regulations, and engineering specifications, with occasional work at heights and exposure to job hazards.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in engineering or related area required.
• Four (4) years of experience related to inspections.
• Five (5) years of active experience and signature authority related to bridge inspections; preferred.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience may be used to meet the minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Bridge Safety Inspection reports following state and federal guidelines.
• Inspect structures by reviewing reports and documenting current conditions.
• Plan inspections including traffic considerations, lane closures, and equipment needs.
• Monitor progress of consulting firms and prepare related reports.
