Job summary

HDR Engineering seeks a Bridge Inspector to join our South Carolina team (Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Fort Mill). The role involves performing bridge inspections, preparing NBIS-compliant reports, and contributing to rating and rehab design efforts.

You will perform load rating analyses using software tools, assist with rehabilitation and design, and coordinate with clients and subcontractors to meet inspection deadlines while adhering to HDR's employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong written communication skills.

HDR Engineering seeks a Bridge Inspector to join our South Carolina team (Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Fort Mill). The role involves performing bridge inspections, preparing reports per NBIS, engineering tasks such as rating, rehab/repair design, and CADD work.

Responsibilities

• Participate in bridge inspections, develop inspection reports, and perform structural load calculations
• Work in a team environment and independently while challenging yourself to acquire knowledge and experience in engineering
• Support HDR’s national inspection program on an occasional basis
• Perform and update load rating analyses using commercially available software such as BrR
• Assist with bridge rehabilitation and design efforts
• Coordinate and schedule with clients, subcontractors, and railroads to meet inspection deadlines on time
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in civil engineering or a related field
• 2+ years of bridge/structural inspection, rating experience or design experience
• Completion of NHI 130055 "Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges" training
• Experience with SCDOT bridge inspections according to BIGD and SCDOT load ratings according to LRGD
• CADD experience; MicroStation preferred
• Experience with ProjectWise, Google Earth, and Bluebeam
• Willing to work with other disciplines within the office during inspection downtime
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and ability to travel for multiple nights and weekends
• Strong client relationship skills
• Physical ability to perform field inspections of various structures and ability to handle environmental hazards
• Local candidates are preferred
