Job summary

STV's Massachusetts office is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader / Senior Structural Engineer to lead inspections of bridges and culverts across diverse projects. The role blends office and field work, mentoring the inspection team, and delivering comprehensive reports using client templates and data systems.

The ideal candidate has a ABET‑accredited civil/structural degree, 7+ years of bridge inspection experience, and MA PE license preferred. Travel within Massachusetts is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited Four-year university.
• 7+ years of experience with a focus on bridge inspections.
• MA PE license preferred; FE licensure from other states accepted.
• Completion of FHWA‑NHI‑130055 Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges.
• Experience with structural design or bridge load ratings using analysis software.
• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite.
• Ability to work independently and in a team; travel within MA.
• Must have a valid Class D driver's license and vehicle access.

Bridge Inspection Team Leader / Senior Structural Engineer

STV currently has an opening for a Bridge Inspection Team Leader/Senior Structural Engineer in our Transportation Division of our Massachusetts office. Sign on and relocation bonus available.

This position offers great career opportunity for a bridge inspection team leader / senior structural engineer to be involved with bridge and culvert projects in all stages. This is a great role to become a subject matter expert in our growing inspection team and take on more leadership responsibilities. Not to mention a great mix of office and field work!

Your Primary Responsibilities

• Work as a Team Leader on bridge and culvert inspections for a variety of inspection projects.
• Collaborate with our growing bridge inspection team.
• Stay current with industry standards, codes, and best practices related to bridge inspection.
• Plan, perform, and execute bridge inspections.
• Coordinate with vendors, agencies and other appropriate parties required to successfully and safely perform the inspection.
• Attend meetings and interact with clients, consultants, and vendors.
• Develop plans and sketches using AutoCAD.
• Obtain required trainings for the projects.
• Deliver comprehensive bridge inspection reports that technically support the structure’s existing condition using client specific templates, forms and electronic data collect systems.
• Supervise and mentor inspection team members.
• Work an individual and as part of a team to perform design calculations, estimates, specifications and bid documents for various bridge and culvert rehabilitation/replacement projects.
• Prepare bridge load rating calculations and reports using various analysis software.
• Support a variety of engineering tasks as needed.
• Assit in monitoring of project budgets and schedules.
• Support with proposal development including cost estimating, and scope of work.

Your Qualifications And Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited four‑year university.
• Minimum 7 years' experience with a focus on bridge inspections.
• Massachusetts Professional Engineering License is preferred - PE licensure from other states accepted.
• Completion of FHWA‑NHI‑130055 (Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges).
• Experience with structural engineering design and/or bridge load ratings with the use of analysis software.
• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Microsoft Office Suite products.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.
• Ability to work schedules specific to project requirements beyond the normal work schedule.
• Record of safe working habits.
• Physical ability to perform field work year‑round in adverse weather conditions and work around bridges, roads, rail, water, and tunnels.
• Physical ability to carry ladders and gear, work at heights, and work in water with waders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel within Massachusetts.
• Must have a vehicle or ability to obtain a vehicle.
• A current and valid Class D Motor Vehicles Operator’s license.

Preferred Qualifications And Skills

• Team Leader experience for Massachusetts Agencies.
• Additional FHWA/NHI Training - Fracture Critical, Moveable Bridge, Tunnel, or Ancillary Structures.
• Experience Delivering reports in MassDOT Bridge Inspection Management Systems.
• Willingness to travel outside Massachusetts on occasion.

Compensation Range

$160,647.46 - $183,597.09
