Job summary

Volkert Inc. is seeking an experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader for the Mid Atlantic Region, based in Springfield, VA. The role requires leading field inspections, coordinating teams and resources, and ensuring NBIS compliance.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years in bridge inspections, with at least one year as a qualified NBIS Team Leader, and willingness to travel locally. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in conducting field inspections and preparing inspection reports.
• Proficiency with NBIS and safety inspection standards.
• Course: NHI Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges with refresher within 5 years.
• Minimum 5+ years in bridge inspections with 1 year as NBIS Team Leader.

• Lead a team of inspectors in the field during inspections.
• Schedule and coordinate inspections, personnel, vendors, stakeholders, and traffic.
• Operate access equipment and other gear for inspections.

We are currently searching for an experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.

What you'll be doing:

• Performing on‑site safety inspections of bridges and culverts
• Leading a team of inspectors in the field during inspections
• Scheduling and coordinating inspections, personnel, vendors, stakeholders, maintenance of traffic
• Operating access equipment and other equipment to perform inspections
• Reviewing and updating bridge inspection reports
• Developing repair recommendations
• Reviewing structural analysis data

What you need to have:

• The successful candidate will have experience in conducting field inspections and preparing inspection reports. Candidates should possess a strong working knowledge of NBIS and have advanced writing and communication skills.
• NHI Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges course with Refresher Training within the last 5 years
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in bridge inspections with a minimum of 1 year service as a qualified NBIS Team Leader
• 50% Local In‑State Travel required
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
• NHI Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges and Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures Courses preferred but not required
• EIT or P.E. license preferred but not required
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state‑specific guidelines
• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
